TYLER TURNER TRIUMPH AS BACK-TO-BACK WINS AT WELCOME TO PARADISE CLINCHES CRYSTAL GLOBE

The weekend March 23-24 2024 marked a 10th annual Welcome to Paradise Para FIS World Cup at Big White Ski Resort, in which 18 countries from around the world took part in two action packed days of Snowboard Cross racing, featuring Canadian National Para Team Athletes Tyler Turner and Sandrine Hamel.

The aluminum anniversary of the event marked a significant milestone for Canadian Para Snowboarding as it stands as the World's longest consecutively running Para Snowboard Snowboard Cross World Cup. In a hotly contested weekend consisting of two stand alone back-to-back world cup races over two days, the event was the FIS World Tour finals for Para Snowboard Cross and culminated in the prestigious Crystal Globes presented to the overall World Cup season champions.

The weekend was all about Tyler Turner, who claimed the Globe on home soil.

Day one of competition delivered a winter wonderland and saw Turner take first place in the LL1 Men's Category ahead of Kosuda Junta and Oguri Daichi, both of Japan.

On Sunday, Turner turned it on and took out a breathtaking Big Final, edging out Elliott Noah of the USA, with Daichi and Junta rounding it out in the opposite finish order from the day prior.

The weekend’s points haul saw him crowned as the 2023/2024 Para Snowboard Cross Crystal Globe winner. Turner won all four WC SBX races across the course of the season, including back to back wins in Pyhä in Finland.

Sandrine Hamel finished her season strong with back to back fourth place finishers making the big final across both days.

Canada Snowboard would like to thank BC Snowboard, Big White Ski Resort, their event team, and all the athletes, coaches, support staff and volunteers who contributed to an incredible  week of racing
